Bogota is a safer city

Yesterday Bogota's Mayor, Luis Eduardo Garzon, released very positive statistics about security in the capital city. Not only Bogota's murder rate has reached its lowest level in 21 years, but it is definitely one of the lowest in the continent.

The following figures show the annual amount of murders for every 100 thousand inhabitants in some North and South American capitals:

Caracas: 133
Sao Paulo: 55
Washington: 34
Bogota: 18
Quito: 16
Buenos Aires: 12
Santiago: 6

Other aspects of the capital's security have improved as well, so Bogota's cars and apartments are less likely to become targets of thievery.
